Well, we’re pretty much over the halfway mark for May now… I have been slacking with blogging so this post is coming a lot later than it normally would…
Leslie at Books Are The New Black hosts this fun monthly theme and I had a look at May which I thought would be fun to take part in.
The rules are simple:
- Mention the creator (Leslie @ Books Are The New Black) and link back so she can see your post!
- Pick 5+ book covers that match the current monthโs Birthstone.
- HAVE FUN!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY… to all the May babies out there!
May’s birthstone is a Emerald and after doing a little research, I found some interesting information on this website for what it means…
“The word โemeraldโ comes from smaragdos, ancient Greek for a green gem. Roman author Pliny the Elder, who died in the 79 CE eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, wrote in his encyclopedic Natural History that โnothing greens greener.โ He also stated that the May birthstone had therapeutic properties that helped gem cutters: โ(they) have no better method of restoring their eyes than by looking at the emerald, its soft, green color comforting and removing their weariness and lassitude.โ Science now proves this belief: The color green relieves stress and eye strain.
The green birthstone was also thought to have magical powers. By placing it under the tongue, one could see into the future. Some believed it made one an eloquent speaker and exposed lovers who made false promises.“

Right, lets get onto the book covers that I was able to find from books I’ve read (still own) and books on my TBR. I was only able to find 6 books that are either predominantly green or have green on the cover…

- Old Fames and New Fortunes by Sarah Hogle (TBR)
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Read – still own)
- The Last Piece of my Heart by Paige Toon (Read – still own)
- Almost There by Farrah Rochon (TBR)
- Hunted by Meagan Spooner (TBR)
- Mate by Ali Hazelwood (TBR)
This was a lot of fun to take part in for May and I’ve already taken a sneak peak for June which I will try to take part in but not sure whether I will combine gemstone colours or focus solely on one…
What emerald books would you recommend? What would you add to the list?
