I’m super excited to take part in my very first book tag today, and itโs a fun one: the This or That Book Tag. The ‘This or That Book Tag’ was created by a blogger called Tea and Paperbacks, whose blog no longer exists. It’s a simple format where Iโll be given a series of bookish questions, each offering two optionsโand I have to choose which one I prefer. Letโs get into it!
Reading on the sofa/couch or on the bed?
I would definitely say reading on the bed because I am such a bed hermit. However, I’m not opposed to a sofa/couch read and will do so if I’m out and about or at someone else’s house. I just prefer the comfort of a bed more in comparison to a sofa/couch.
MMC (male main character) or FMC (female main character)?
I gravitate more towards FMC rather than MMC. I feel like I can relate more to FMC but I don’t mind the odd book from a MMC perspective. Depending on the genre though, I don’t mind dual POV from both MMC and FMC perspectives.
Sweet or salty snacks when reading?
I am 100% a sweet snack girly! If I was going out to buy snacks to eat whilst reading, I’ll always choose sweet. However, if I’m in dire need of a snack and we have no sweet things in the house (and I’m feeling lazy not to go out).. I will not turn down a salty snack. A snack is a snack in my eyes and if I’m hungry, I’ll take anything.
Trilogies or quartets?
I’d probably say trilogies over quartets. I don’t like a book series to have too many books in them and feel we get just the right amount out of a trilogy. Sometimes I don’t mind reading a series that has a fourth book but when buying new series, I tend to try and stick to trilogies.
First or third-person POV?
I honestly don’t mind reading either but I have found over the years that I read more books in first-person rather than third. I won’t turn a book away if it is written in third-person but I find I buy and enjoy more books written in first-person.
Reading at night or in the morning?
I am definitely a night owl so prefer reading at night. I am 100% not a morning person and find that my brain isn’t quite switched on enough to be reading a book after I’ve woke up. I prefer the cosy, comforting vibes of night time reading and will happily stay up late to read (not that I should but hey, I can’t say no to a book that has me hooked).
Libraries or bookstores?
I will hold my hands up and honestly say that I do not use libraries – I think this is mainly because we have so little in my area and I think I’d be terrible with forgetting to return library books that I’ve taken out (my memory isn’t that great). I work in a school library and although I don’t use them myself outside of work, I like to promote the use of them to the children because I do think libraries should be used more. Back to the question, probably bookstores even though I rarely go to them. If I’m out and about I will pop into ones I see but a lot of my books are bought online.
Books that make you laugh or make you cry?
I’d probably say books that make me cry. It is very rare that a book can make me laugh, I will have the odd smile whilst reading but I’ll be rarely laughing out loud. I also want a book to be able to make me feel the emotions it is trying to portray and lets be honest… who doesn’t love a good cry at a book sometimes? I feel more connected to the characters if it’s able to make me cry.
Black or white covers?
I don’t really have a preference but I definitely own more black covers than I do white. I prefer the aesthetic of white covers but there doesn’t seem to be many out there… I do think a black covers looks clean though!
Character or plot-driven stories?
I think I’d have to say character-driven stories overall. However, if I’m reading a mystery or thriller book then I would say I prefer plot-driven stories for those genres.
Do you agree with any of my choices? Or would you have chosen something different for any of the questions mentioned?
