Book Synopsis:
Roll initiativeโfor tension, temptation, and the kind of drama no spell can fix.
Every week, Emma opens her home for game night. Around the table, fantasy worlds unfold, dice roll, and unspoken feelings linger between her and Markโa long-time friend with a gaze that lingers too long. Itโs a routine she trusts. A party she depends on.
But when a new player joins the group, everything shifts. Jealousy brews. Alliances crack. And the carefully drawn lines between character and player, desire and danger, begin to blurโboth in the game world and outside it.
Told in dual timelinesโone around the table, the other in a volatile fantasy realm shaped by their choicesโDice and Desire is a genre-bending romance that blends slow-burn attraction, emotional conflict, and the monsters we carry with us.
For readers who crave campaign chemistry, fantasy-laced friction, and morally grey choices where no one’s rolling with advantage.
Book Review
I am a sucker for books that include Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) or gives me those sorts of vibes and the cover of this book is what drew me in. However, I will admit that I went into this book not really knowing much about it. Looking back, I wish I’d done some more research because I did not enjoy this… I feel so negative going into this review but I have to give my honest thoughts…
Before I discuss what I didn’t like about the book, I will say that considering it is under 200 pages it was still packed with lots of content. I was able to read it in one sitting which I guess is good.
The dual timeline aspect took me a while to get used to and upon reflection, I don’t think I still fully understand what was going on. I was left feeling very confused at the end. The storyline had potential, but the book fell short and left me with many questions. At least I understood the D&D references, or I would have been completely lost.
Though it’s a short novella, the spicy scenes came quickly, which some readers might enjoy. However, I found them uncomfortable, despite usually liking a bit of spice. *Make sure you read the full details on Goodreads explaining the content included. I did not and I really should have…*
I think it was a clever idea the author was trying to achieve by blurring the lines between fantasy and reality but honestly, it just was not my vibe and I don’t think it was executed great.
Maybe I’m the problem and not the book???
