Book Synopsis:
On the darkest night, the stars still shine.
Feyre’s first Winter Solstice as High Lady is drawing near. With it will come a hard-earned rest from the work that she, Rhysand and their friends have done to rebuild the Night Court and the vastly changed world beyond. Yet the festive atmosphere can’t keep shadows from looming.
Even as her own heart heals, she finds that those dearest to her have wounds that go deeper than she knew. And the scars of the past will touch her court in times to come.
Book Review
Note on the Author –
Iโm aware of the ongoing conversations and criticisms surrounding Sarah J. Maas and her work. While I think itโs important to acknowledge those conversations, Iโve decided to go ahead with reviewing the book based on my reading experience. Everyone engages with stories differently, and I respect that this might not be a series/author for everyone.
With this being a novella, I don’t really have much to say about it. I will probably sum up my thoughts in a couple of paragraphs.
This wasn’t a bad book but it definitely felt like filler between A Court of Wings and Ruin and A Court of Silver Flames. Do I think you need to read this book before continuing onto ACOSF? Probably not. That being said, I still enjoyed it for what is was. Now I have read it, it does make a good transition from ACOWAR ready for me to dive into ACOSF.
This book is essentially the characters going shopping for Solstice as well as healing from the survival of the war. It was cute but if you are someone who likes a plot.. this novella doesn’t really have one. I enjoyed that the chapters were from different character POVs. It was nice to get a glimpse of what their everyday lives look like. After everything these characters have been through, I think they deserved a little peace, happiness and a chance to just live. Maas delivered this well and I loved seeing the interactions between characters throughout. Overall, I had a decent time with this one even though I was hesitant to pick it up to begin with. I will mention that I think if you were going to read this one… save it for around Christmas time. The vibes were SO good!
I am fully aware (as mentioned at the start) about Sarah J. Maas but I will be continuing onto the next book in the series. I donโt agree with her actions or words, but Iโm reading the books for what they areโjust books. “Separate the art from the artist.” Iโm not openly recommending this book, as I respect that everyone makes their own choices based on the information they have. However, I wanted to give my honest opinions on what I thought of the book, NOT Sarah J. Maas as a person.
