As 2026 approaches, Iโve been reflecting on the voices that have shaped my reading lifeโand the ones Iโm ready to part ways with. Two authors in particular who haven’t been on my shelves for that long, I’m going to be leaving behind. My tastes, priorities, and expectations as a reader have shifted slightly, and itโs time to acknowledge that their works no longer resonate with me. This post is a farewell of sorts to them.
Freida McFadden
I am incredibly sad about leaving behind this author… The first book that I ever read from her was a 5 star (The Inmate) and I was excited to read more of her books. However, since then I have read two other books that both ended up being 3 stars (The Crash & The Coworker). I’ve decided to not even try her most popular series (The Housemaid) because I’m worried it’ll just be another ‘meh’ read. Don’t get me wrong, the books I’ve read were bingeable but I don’t think I’ve got it in me anymore to read her books in hope of getting some better ratings. She has so many books out now that I just wouldn’t be able to catch up. Goodbye McFadden – you were fun while it lasted.

Katie Cicatelli-Kuc
This is an author that I’m not too sad about leaving behind. I don’t have much to say about why they are getting left behind… I’ve only recently discovered them as an author this year but have been very disappointed with the books that I have read from them (Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice & Mint to Be). I normally love a YA romance book but the ones I’ve read from her have been such a let down. Goodbye Cicatelli-Kuc – it’s been emotional… and not in a good way.
