Johnny Be Good by Paige Toon | Book Review

Book Synopsis:

Book Review

I have read a number of Paige Toon books so far over the years, enjoyed them and have rated them between 3 and 4 stars. This one also falls into those ratings. You can easily read this book on the beach, by the pool on holiday, or sitting out at home in the summer.

I usually feel apprehensive about romance books over 400 pages, but I found this one surprisingly quick to read. This is one of Toon’s oldest books and it definitely felt like that whilst reading it. The first half hooked me immediately, but after the midpoint, the pace slowed, and some chapters felt like unnecessary filler.

I was instantly hooked by the rockstar ร— personal assistant premiseโ€”who doesnโ€™t love a troubled rockstar? However, at points even I have to admit he was getting on my nerves. Meg overall was a good FMC but there were points where she was being annoying and naรฏve but Christian’s character made up for that. I liked that the main characters are from the UK while the story is set in America, which really enhances the celebrity vibe of the plot.

I kind of had an idea on where the book ending was going and it’s what helped bump the rating up. Now, I knew this was the first book as part of a duology but I didn’t know how the book was going to lead into the second one… well I do now!

Yes, there are some criticisms that I’ve mentioned but I did not dislike the book. Reading Toon’s newer releases shows how her writing style has evolved and improved over time, but this older book still holds up well. If you’re in the mood for some rockstar vibes or just a romance in general, I think it’s worth giving this book a try and seeing what you think.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
