I saw a post from Katy’s Archived talking about the struggles with completing book series and I wanted to do my own reflection on this topic…
I’ll admit that I have never been someone to binge a series. I tend to start series and then take months (possibly even years) to read the next books. I am also someone who doesn’t reread books… If I can’t remember the previous book in a series I tend to just hope for the best that it all comes back to me.
Over the years, Iโve DNFโd more series whenever I didnโt enjoy the first or second book. If a series doesnโt hook me immediately, I usually stop reading it. I love Katyโs quote on this: ‘Lifeโs too short to be stuck reading something that isnโt fun.‘ I completely agree!
I’ve been doing better this year with continuing on in series I have started previously. However, I have definitely not finished as many as I should have by now… I am a person who is big on tracking my reading with a spreadsheet so it has been interesting to look at and get the stats from my series tab. I will be giving a breakdown of my series tracker overall for the last 5 years below.
Series In Progress – 23

Series DNF’d – 30
Series Finished – 7
Total Series Started – 60 (including DNF’s, In Progress and Completed)

There are a couple of series that I am halfway through (but I need to buy the next books). There is one that I am procrastinating on ‘finishing’ which is Onyx Storm [The Empyrean Series] because I recently found out it is no longer a trilogy. Therefore, I’m not rushing to read that one until I have a release date for the next.
With there only being a few months left of the year, I’m hoping to chip away a little more on the series I still have in progress. I will also be trying not to start any new ones. Although there is a slim chance that will happen as I start new series without realising sometimes..
How many series are you in the middle of? Have you DNFโd any? How many have you completed?
